Applause, a performing arts program on the Upper East Side for ages 3-18, is looking to hire a seasonal production manager for our Musical Theater Performance programs.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Serve as liaison between department manager and performance venues during tech + show weeks
Facilitate all aspects of production, including, but not limited to:
The hiring and managing of all third party staff, such as designers, stage managers, crew, etc.
Load in/load out at venues
Setting up/hanging light plot, sound, projections
Establishing technical needs + Renting necessary equipment, such as lights, drapes, sound equipment, etc.
Assisting with set building, costume management, etc.
Setting up front and back of house, backstage areas, dressing rooms, etc. for tech week + performance weekend
Ability to program and operate a lighting board/sound system is preferred but not required.
Securing any special permits needed (haze, TPA, etc.)
Working with administrative team to create + manage budget
Setting up all production paperwork
The ideal candidate is someone who is:
Connected in the technical theater community, and can call upon their own contact list of available stagehands, electricians, designers, and production personnel
An experienced theater professional with a passion for working in an educational environment
Very organized and able to create rehearsal/tech/show/payment schedules and purchase orders
Able to work within a tight budget and have creative solutions
A self-starter and able to manage your time efficiently
This is a hybrid position, with mostly remote, part-time work and occasional in-person meetings prior to show weeks. In the few weeks prior to show week and during show week, early mornings, nights, and weekend hours (all in-person) required. This position requires the ability to perform physical activities such as moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, utilizing ladders, scaffolds, and personnel lifts to access equipment at height, maneuvering heavy equipment, and using hand and power tools. Additional activities include walking, lifting, bending, crouching, climbing, and standing.
Full compensation ranges from $5000-$6000 upon completion of the season.
Season runs from now- mid January with an option to renew for the Winter/Spring season.
