As the Costume Shop Manager, you will manage and directly supervise costume shop staff to pull, buy,
construct, alter and maintain all costume pieces for the 4 production Hope Repertory Theatre season. In conjunction with the Production
Costume Designers, you are responsible for the realization of the costume design and functional integrity
for the production, as well as their maintenance throughout the production run.
You are also responsible for:
+bull; Positive collaboration with directors, costume designers, production manager and technical staff
throughout the production process, including pre-season communication and season planning.
+bull; Leading communication on efficient use of costume shop resources for repertory productions
between four-six costume designers.
+bull; Creation of weekly summer plan, including build and fitting schedules for each production
according to design deadlines.
+bull; Clear communication and timely collaboration with stage management regarding rehearsal
costumes, including transport of costumes to rehearsal facilities if needed.
+bull; Scheduling fittings and haircuts with stage management; attend and supervise fittings and
haircuts.
+bull; Clear communication and proper collaboration with Props Master and/or other production
departments regarding division of overlapping items (bags, jewelry, effects, etc.).
+bull; Safe operation, upkeep, and maintenance of costume shop, dressing rooms, fitting room, and laundry facilities. This includes sewing machines, tools, supplies, and storage areas.
+bull; Organization and purchasing of all costume and wardrobe materials including fabric, notions, shoes, supplies, and other items as needed per production.
+bull; Obtaining and returning any borrowed or rented costume items.
+bull; Coordination and scheduling of all costume crew calls and scheduling of all costume crew members; general training and mentorship of costumes staff and interns in construction techniques and theatrical practices. CSM may be asked to advise Props Master or Technical Director on appropriate fabric construction methods as needed.
+bull; Monitoring build and alterations to completion in a timely manner.
+bull; Clear communication and collaboration with Assistant Costume Shop Manager/Wardrobe Supervisor and First Hand regarding shop management, build schedule and crew labor.
+bull; Occupational safety and health of costume shop workers; safe facility and tool usage is critical.
+bull; Operational decisions as the head of the costume department, including management of costume supply budgets.
+bull; Overseeing operations of the Wardrobe Supervisor: ensure wardrobe paperwork is accurate andcurrent;
assist WS in training wardrobe crew and cast in dressing and make-up/hair technique
