Under the direction of the Production Electrician, the Moving Light Programmer serves as a key member of La Jolla Playhouse+rsquo;s Production Department Staff. The position is expected to function in a fast-paced and detail-critical environment, working closely with both the Production Electrician and visiting Lighting Designers to program moving light and conventional lighting rigs and run an EOS-based console for, at minimum, all tech weeks for all La Jolla Playhouse productions.
The strongest candidate is an artist and technician committed to the artistic vision and mission of La Jolla Playhouse.

Responsibilities
- Programs a full 6-show season with rigs containing upward of (40) automated LED and moving light fixtures on an EOS console (Ion, Gio @5, TI, etc)
- In conference with the Electrics Supervisor, sets up and/or maintains console layout and soft patch
- Performs all technical programming elements necessary for the lighting designer to achieve their desired artistic vision, without explicit instruction. These include (but are not limited to) macros, chases, effects, and marking
- Work load-ins, focus, strikes, show runs, and maintenance calls as determined in conjunction with the Lighting Supervisor
- Works with the Assistant and/or Associate Lighting Designer in show preparation by pre-programming groups, presets, beam and color pallets, and cues
- Works directly with the Lighting Designer in writing all cues, pallets, and presets during the tech and previews process
- Assists ALD with moving light documentation using MLA software
- When applicable, as determined in coordination with the Production Electrician, trains a Board Operator to take over and complete run of show

Qualifications
- Demonstrates extensive hands-on experience programming on the EOS console system in a theatrical electrics department or related field (concerts, film, etc)
- Strong working knowledge of complex programming techniques including but not limited to pixel mapping, effects, macros, marking
- Possesses strong critical thinking, attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well with designers, actors and others in a calm, flexible manner in a position which is by nature subject to much change with little notice
- Strong understanding of control protocols such as DMX, SMPTE, and Midi
- Strong familiarity with automated lighting fixtures and controllers currently used in the rental market, including working knowledge of basic repair and troubleshooting
- Willingness to find opportunities for education as software continues to change and develop
- Function in a professional and collegial manner when collaborating with all theatre personnel, professional creative teams, staff, management and other visiting artists
- Computer Skills: Vectorworks, Excel, Lightwright, ETC Suite, MLA
- Access to reliable transportation

Physical Demands
- Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, during tech and performances
- Frequently performs work on ladders, lifts, catwalks, and grids
- Frequently lifts up to 50lbs with assistance

Work Environment:
- Environment varies from dark/quiet backstage, on the grid and into a bright/loud on stage
- Regular work on tension wire grid
