The General Manager works closely with the artistic and production staff to produce Goodman productions and programs. The General Manager plays a role in overseeing the business operations of the organization, including budget oversight, administration, and general operations. As a member of the senior leadership team, the General Manager provides institutional leadership in support of Goodman Theatre's mission, values, and strategic goals.

-Negotiate and/or oversee contracting with all artistic personnel including actors, directors, choreographers, music directors, etc.
-Negotiate and administer the theater's agreement with the American Federation of Musicians
-Secure rights and negotiate playwright licensing agreements and commission agreements
-Oversee all visiting company initiatives and theatrical rental agreements
-In coordination with the CFO, serve as management liaison to The Magic Parlour
-Work closely with Executive Director to manage collaborations with producing partners, including commercial producers and non-profit theatres. Negotiate and oversee all co-productions, transfers and tours of Goodman productions.
-Supervise the Company Manager, including contracting of all artists, transportation and housing accommodations, and foreign artists visa processing
-Supervise the Front of House Department including all lobby operations, guest services and security.
-Administer and ensure compliance with various artistic and production labor contracts.
-In coordination with the Director of Production and Managing Producer, prepare and manage direct artistic and production budgets
-In conjunction with the Director of New Play Stages, prepare and manage the new play development budget, including the annual New Stages Festival
-Lead by example, modeling behavior and values consistent with Goodman's Community Agreement and furthering Goodman's IDEAA (inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism and access) goals
-Serve as member of the Goodman Health and Safety Committee, working closely with Director of Operations and Front of House Director to maintain a safe work environment

-Minimum of 10 years relevant management experience in theatre or performing arts.
-Extensive background and demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices related to theatrical general management.
-Minimum of six years writing, interpreting and managing contracts including familiarity with theatrical unions (AEA, SDC, USA) preferred
-Strong interpersonal, administrative + project management skills, including demonstrated success managing complex budgets.
-Excellent people management skills including developing and leading teams.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-At least 3 years experience providing organizational leadership
-Consistent application of confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy and tact.
-Ability to multitask multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with acute attention to detail.
-Creative thinker, flexible, easily adaptable to change
-Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
-Responsibilities require position to work mostly onsite with minimal remote work capability. Must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary
