The Department of Theatre in the College of Performing Arts at Chapman University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre Design and Technology, effective Fall 2024.

Responsibilities

Teaching design and technology courses.
Work with the faculty, chair, and dean of The College of Performing Arts to continue developing the Department of Theare's BFA in Entertainment Design and Technology curricula.
Participate in the curriculum development and assessment processes.
Engage in scholarship/creative activities commensurate with the applicants rank. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active nationally and internationally recognized creative/scholarly body of work.
Advise, mentor, and encourage undergraduate students with regard to curriculum, research projects, internship opportunities, and career possibilities.
An active involvement in the Department of Theatre, College of Performing Arts, and University service is expected.
Opportunities to design are available within the mainstage season.
Qualifications


Requirements

Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) conferred by August 1, 2024.
Record of outstanding teaching, and significant professional experience in theatre design and technology.
Commitment to undergraduate education.
Experience in scenic design with a secondary interest in either costume design and /or projection design.
The ideal candidate also must have a consistent dedication to service, as well as an ongoing commitment to supporting and mentoring students.
Ability to teach courses such as Scenic Design, Costume Design, Projection Design, Introduction to Theatre Technology, Stagecraft, Drafting, and Design History and Theory.
Preferred Requirements

Experience in developing innovative courses, curricula, and research related to the applicant+rsquo;s area of scholarship and creative activity, and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinarity are highly desirable.
Ideal candidates should have a clearly defined pedagogical approach informed by ongoing practical experience in theatre design and technology.
