OVERVIEW
The job of Shop Technician is to assist the technical director to create, implement, direct, monitor, evaluate, and promote the district+rsquo;s visual and performing arts programs; represent the programs within the community; and provide leadership, creative, and technical support as assigned.
This person is an expert in their respective fields and can work independently or lead small groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Promotes the visual and performing arts program for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development, including the recruitment of students for the program, and creating opportunities for students to participate.
Collaborates with a variety of internal and external sources (e.g., principals, theater staff, band, choir, etc.) for the purpose of developing or implementing and maintaining services and/or programs and serving as a liaison and information/process resource.
Participates in a wide variety of meetings that involve a range of issues related to visual and performing arts (e.g., program offerings, funding status, participation levels, scheduling, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information, evaluating topics/materials, identifying appropriate actions, and/or developing recommendations.
Responds to inquiries of students, other school personnel, community representatives, etc. for the purpose of providing information, assistance and/or direction regarding the program and student activities.
Assist Technical Director in Scenic, Lighting and Technical Design for all productions within the district.
Be an integral part of each production+rsquo;s run-crew.
Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of quality and safety
With Technical Director will meet with clients, other technical staff and booking and programming personnel to discuss production needs.
Install, maintain, repair, and coordinate the use of stage equipment, including sound and lighting systems and equipment.
Assist in supervising professional and student stagehands as assigned; supervisory duties include instructing, planning and assigning work, reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel and acting on employee problems
Train staff and students in the proper use of tools and equipment.
Assist other departments with maintenance needs as requested.
Utilize various clerical and computer supplies; electrician+rsquo;s tools, supplies and parts; hardware; cabling; hand and power tools, stage supplies, etc.
Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, coworkers, other District staff, clients and their representatives, and the general public
Perform entertainment service technical duties at a general level of proficiency with an understanding and demonstration of basic theatrical technical skills.
Troubleshoot needed maintenance and make minor repairs on sound systems, audio speakers, video components and other technical equipment as assigned.
Participate in establishing a welcoming atmosphere and supportive learning environment in the Grosse Pointe Public School System.
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling
climbing and balancing
stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
and significant fine finger dexterity
Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. One may be exposed to dust and other allergens present in a typical construction and/or performing arts build site. Additionally one will be exposed to various lighting conditions, including darkened walkways and stairwells.
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Minimum of 5 years+rsquo; experience working in a performing arts environment or equivalent preferred.
Work Schedule
12 Month position
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends when needed
