The Grosse Pointe Public Schools In Grosse Pointe, MI (Just Northeast of Detroit), are seeking a PAC Shop Technician. (This is our Level II (of 3) stagehand position.) Interviews will take place as qualified candidates apply -- hiring will take place as soon as possible.

Overview:

The PAC Stagehand is an integral part of a 7 person extremely fast paced production department that produces 5 Musicals, 4 Dramas and various other events throughout the school year. Primary responsibilities for this position include the supervision and operation of production equipment and facilities within the Grosse Pointe Public School System.
The PAC Stagehand will assume some minor supervisory duties and authority of, and act on behalf of the TD and the District when the TD is not present. The PAC Stagehand must have verifiable professional experience in at least one of the following areas of theatrical production:

+bull; Stage Management for Theater/Opera;
+bull; Stage Carpentry + Painting/Scenic Assembly;
+bull; Theatrical Lighting/Electrical Technician;
+bull; Sound Mixing/Engineering for Theatre/Musical Theater/Opera;

Specific Responsibilities may include any and/or all of the following:
+bull; Assist or Lead on Scenic, Lighting, Projection, or Audio Designs
+bull; Function as Scenic Charge Artist for some productions.
+bull; Assist in the training and supervision of and student-employee technical support staff and student-volunteer workers
+bull; Build, and set up sets and stages in accordance with standard safety procedures
+bull; Lays-out, assembles and finishes scenic elements.
+bull; Performs mathematical calculations in the construction of scenic elements
+bull; Reads and consults plans and blueprints
+bull; Follows through on TD+rsquo;s and designers requests on scenic elements
+bull; Cleans up the scene shop when required
+bull; Transports scenery and scenic elements to and from the shop and various theaters.
+bull; Assist in loading, unloading, fabrication, installation and operation of lighting, sound, and rigging systems and manipulation of scenery and props in a theatrical setting.
+bull; Assist with securing and maintaining all lighting and sound equipment
+bull; Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
+bull; Working knowledge of professional stage techniques and materials
+bull; Attention to detail and a desire to see a project through to completion
+bull; Excellent Leadership and Communication Skills
+bull; Ability to read and follow a script
+bull; Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
+bull; Ability to meet deadlines under pressure with grace
+bull; Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
+bull; Knowledge of rigging and fly systems in a professional theatre.
+bull; Valid Driver+rsquo;s License and Ability to obtain a Chauffeur's License

Knowledge of sound board, basic lighting plot, and stage management equipment a plus.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
+bull; lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling
+bull; climbing and balancing
+bull; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
+bull; and significant fine finger dexterity
Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. One may be exposed to dust and other allergens present in a typical construction and/or performing arts build site. Additionally, one will be exposed to various lighting conditions, including darkened walkways and stairwells.

Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
Minimum of 1 years+rsquo; experience working in a performing arts environment or equivalent preferred.

Work Schedule
12 Month position
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends when needed
