The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center opened in April 1964 as the New York State Theater. The theater was designed by the renowned architect Philip Johnson, built with funds from the State of New York, and given to the City of New York as a home for performing arts organizations. Today, the theater is home to the New York City Ballet as well as a growing number of national and international touring performing arts groups.
General Summary:
Assistant Stage Manager provides practical and organizational support to the Stage Manager and Director of Production, working within the seven-member Production Department and is an active component of New York City Ballet performances and technical rehearsals. The Assistant Stage Manager position is a union represented role and the successful candidate will be required to join the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) upon hire.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Create + maintain cue lists for stage managers+rsquo; use during performances + rehearsals of ballets assigned, including new works.
Create and maintain production paperwork such as fly cue sheets, bow cards, carpenter paperwork. Take, update and/or archive notes for technical aspects of ballets assigned, including new works.
Share calling responsibilities with Stage Manager and supervise deck stage right or stage left when not calling.
Assist lighting department during intermission changeovers; keep time; check in dancers, conductors and guest artists. Keep dancers informed of any last-minute program or casting changes, and any emergency rehearsals.
Take notes of technical issues during rehearsal and performances.
Facilitate communication between the Stage Manager, the dancers, and crew.
Assist Stage Manager in supervising the work of the stage crew during rehearsals and performances.
Assist Stage Manager in overseeing the entire show each time it is performed.
Ensure safety for all backstage personnel.
Additional responsibilities:
Track dancers+rsquo; theater cases +ndash;on tour and in the David H Koch Theater. Checks cases in and out of each location and at the beginning and end of each season.
Assist Production Department with packing + coordinating for tours.
Hire light walkers for technical sessions when dancers are not present. Supervise + coordinate walkers schedule and payroll.
Responsible for purchase of company expendable props.
Responsible for purchase of NYCB Production Department needs such as office supplies, spike and gaff tape, dancer supplies, toe shoe table supplies and first aid.
Responsible for distribution of weekly schedules and timing sheets as created by the Stage Manager and Director of Production.
Minimum Requirements
Strong show calling skills and musicality
Ability to read music
Excellent communication and organizational skills
A sharp eye for detail
Computer skills and awareness of current technologies and software
Problem solving skills and the ability to think on your feet
Must be able to travel when the company is on tour
Maintain irregular and extended working hours
Bachelor degree in performing arts or drama/theater
3 years of relevant experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a seasonal contract position; total weeks vary depending on touring. Work hours vary according to the ballet schedule and include weekends, holidays, and other scheduled work periods as necessary.

This position is an AGMA supported position with benefit package + health insurance per union contract
Seasonal position +ndash; approximately 36 - 40 weeks (depending on touring), $2,080.00 weekly
