The five show summer stock season requires candidates to be able to handle quick scenic builds and changeovers. An ideal candidate is energetic and motivated to manage the Peninsula Players Theatre's high production values and the scene shop staff of three staff carpenters and three interns. The Technical Director is responsible for the on-time planning, engineering, and installation of the designed scenic elements. Experience as a TD or ATD at the professional level is preferred, but early career candidates with graduate degrees will also be considered.
Job responsibilities:
-Lead team to create all scenic elements for each production as designed by Scenic Designer
-Work with the Production Manager to keep shows within set parameters for budget + schedule
-Manage purchasing of any items needed (in-store and online shopping)
-Maintain effective communication with Scenic Designer and the rehearsal room throughout the entire production process
-Create construction and mechanical drawings for all scenic elements
-Supervise Lead Carpenter, Carpenters, and Scenic Interns through all phases of process
-Work with Lead Carpenter to manage day to day tasks of the shop
-Collaborate with Scenic Charge Artist on daily scheduling of space and time for painting scenic elements
-Train the scenic interns on tool usage and best theatrical practices
-Provide interns with learning opportunities on a regular basis
-Manage the load in and strike of all 5 shows
-Manage and maintain shop safety, general maintenance of the shop, and show maintenance through the run of each show
-Manage onstage safety in relation to scenic elements including necessary training for run crew positions
-Collaborate with all other department heads as each show needs
-Willingly assist other departments as needed including projects related to the well being and maintenance of our property
-Evening show duties are assigned as each show demands. These include helping in our patron parking lots, ushering, bartending, concessions, etc.

-Ability to lift 75 lbs
-Bachelor's degree in related field or commensurate experience
-2+ Years professional experience in similar environment/position (or Master's degree/further education)
-Valid U.S. driver's license
Staff arrival date on campus is May 17th, 2026 with the first day of work commencing on May 18th 2026. Departure date is on September 11th 2026, which is a day after the fifth show opens. (The final production closes on October 18th 2026 and the property is closed down on October 21st 2026.)
The rate for this position is $850 - $950 per week, based on skills and experience. Travel stipend provided. All positions are housed on property, at no cost. Meals are provided at a cost of $95/week.
