The Palace Theatres, a fast-paced, dynamic regional theatre company located in Manchester, NH is seeking passionate, eager, and qualified stagehands to work across our multiple performance spaces.
The Palace Theatres produces eight professional musicals annually in a beautiful and historic 115+ year old theatre. The Palace Theatres also has an award-winning youth theatre program that performs approximately 25 shows per year. Between our musicals and youth theatre, we present a wide variety of concerts, rental shows, and other live events.
Our stagehands are responsible for loading in, setting up, executing assigned duties, tearing down, and loading out Palace Theatres' productions. Willingness to assist other departments as needed is a big plus.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Necessary accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The ideal candidate would possess the following:
Education and Experience:
-Two or more years' experience in technical theatre, stagecraft, entertainment technology/design, or related field preferred. At minimum, some experience working in a theatre or performing arts space required.
Skills and Abilities Desired:
-Experience in a professional theatre setting strongly preferred
-Working knowledge of lighting consoles (programming or operating) or digital sound consoles is a BIG plus
-Experience working backstage for touring acts and/or youth theatre productions
-Ability and willingness to supervise/lead a small team with various projects
-Knowledge and experience in at least one specific theatre discipline (sound, video, rigging, etc.) is a plus; an eagerness to assist other departments as needed is highly desired
-Proficiency using various hand and power tools as needed
-Ability to drive a 26 foot box truck in tight spaces
-Excellent organizational and communication skills
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
-Wide range of physical movements including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, etc. in the performance of daily activities
-Ability to lift, drag, and/or push materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
-Moderate exposure to loud noises, bright lights, moving theatrical elements, etc. as well as the potential for electrical shock and burn hazards
-Ability to work on ladders, mechanical lifts, and/or in high places required
Hourly contract with potential for growth. Nearby housing may be provided for the right candidate.
