Staff Carpenter/Stagehand- Summer or Full Season
Job Dates:
Now through early January 2026
Year-Round position contracts are renewed annually in January

We would prefer applicants who are available for a year-round contract, but will consider partial season availability

Pay:
$615+/wk. Plus additional 20% compensation for opening weeks

The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is seeking a CARPENTER/STAGEHAND for the remainder of its 2025 Season and beyond. The Gateway is a professional non-profit theater located roughly 55 miles east of New York City on Long Island in Bellport, NY. A typical Gateway work week is 5 days. There are a few exceptions that are 6 days a week, Mainstage opening weeks, Haunt opening week, with additional compensation. Salary is negotiable, and on-site housing is provided. Gateway will also assist with transportation to and from its location in New York.

Carpenter/Stagehand Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, clean + organized office, shop, work, and storage spaces
- Loading in and changing over technical elements for each production
- Constructing scenery on an as needed basis
- Constructing/refurbishing sets that have been rented for productions
- Being a part of the run crew
- Loading, unloading, and cross loading of scenic trailers

Qualifications:
- Must have good communication skills
- Knowledge of Theatrical building techniques
- Ability to read scenic drawing and build plans
- Capacity to solve problems
- Maturity and understanding of the artistic process
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
- Rigging/Flying a plus
- Metal Working and Welding skills a plus
- Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds
- Driver's license a plus

All Technical Staff will occasionally help in other areas of production on an as needed basis. Staff positions in all departments will be expected to work alongside Apprentices and to promote a healthy and safe work/learning environment.
