Staff Carpenter/Stagehand: Year-Round

Job Dates:
Year-Round: Late April/early May through early January 2027
*Year-Round contracts are renewed annually and typically begin in January

Pay and Benefits:
$630/wk. Plus additional 20% compensation for 6-day weeks
Free housing
Travel Assistance at beginning and end of contract for technicians traveling from off Long Island

The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is seeking CARPENTERS/STAGEHANDS for the remainder of their 2026 Shows. The Gateway is a professional non-profit theater located roughly 55 miles east of New York City on Long Island in Bellport, NY. A typical Gateway work week is 5 days. Tech/opening week for shows and the haunt are typically the 6-day weeks. There is additional compensation for all 6-day weeks. Salary is negotiable, and on-site housing is provided. Gateway will also assist with transportation to and from its location in New York.

Carpenter/Stagehand Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, clean + organized office, shop, work, and storage spaces
- Loading in and changing over technical elements for each production
- Constructing scenery on an as needed basis
- Constructing/refurbishing sets that have been rented for productions
- Being a part of the run crew
- Loading, unloading, and cross loading of scenic trailers

Qualifications:
- Must have good communication skills
- Knowledge of Theatrical building techniques
- Ability to read scenic drawing and build plans
- Capacity to solve problems
- Maturity and understanding of the artistic process
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
- Rigging/Flying a plus
- Metal Working and Welding skills a plus
- Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds
- Driver's license a plus

All Technical Staff will occasionally help in other areas of production on an as needed basis. Staff positions in all departments will be expected to promote a healthy and safe work environment.
